Within Parameters - ICYM Alumni
Many graduates more often misuse or do not understand the word alumni or alumnus or alumnae. Our bonding with our colleagues will only be when we're studying in the same place but disappeared when we have left the college or university.
Allow me to apprise my distinguished readers, the definition of the word alumni. In Latin. Alumnus is a masculine noun, refers to a male graduate or former student; the plural is alumni. An alumna in Latin is a feminine noun, refers to a female graduate or former student; the plural is alumnae. Traditionally, the masculine plural alumni is commonly been used for groups composed of both sexes.
What is the role of an Alumni Office in colleges and universities?
The main role of an Alumni Office is to be able to work with colleagues across the collegiate University in order to build long lasting relationship so that it is not ephemeral, awareness and engagement by offering activities or programs that are perceived to be of value to the alumni throughout their lives.
As an example, there are currently more than 200,000 Oxford alumni in over 88 countries of which one third of the alumni are based overseas. Where do we stand as lCYM alumni? The main idea when lCYM alumni was first initiated was to provide all graduates regardless of their ethnic backgrounds and fields or subject affiliations with an alumni experience commensurate with their local and international flavor; exposure and offer a cornucopia program of events, communications and benefits to help them in touch and involved with lCYM.
‘It‘s a jungle out there’ is a very common axiom but little did we know only later after we have left our alma mater (the school, college, or university that one has attended).
Interacting with one another during your college or university clay is now gone and living in the 'rat-race society', one is faced with the hustle and bustle to make ends meet.
Another question that comes to mind is how do you balance the polarities of perfection and authenticity to lead at your own peak level?
Alumni are just like a group, special group or coterie. So why do we join groups and what is the very reason we want to be around other people?
Is it because we are bored with ourselves or maybe we need a helping hand or perhaps we need them as much as they need us.
One of the many reasons that we are together in a Special group is the interaction, especially in a group format with a few of our members who have good foresight, profundity in specific disciplines, the indomitable and ever ready to be of assistance to others.
We should be proud to become a part of lCYM alumni for the very reason that we could contribute ideas, time, energy, money and being inclusive for the purpose of lending a helping hand to all our friends. lCYM Alumni can be a platform for a better source of knowledge rather than one individual and it kind of goes back to the old saying of 'two heads are better than one'. Going along with that saying, it is simple and sweet that the alumni is definitely more powerful in providing a quality result and smarter decisions than any individual can if he or she is working alone.
When we are part of the alumni, our efforts and team goals are identified by accomplishments that transcend the alumna and alumnae individual goals. Greater alumni interaction, individual satisfaction, and employee job satisfaction are the mélange of accomplishments together with the alumni efforts.
Let me take this opportunity to wish each and every one of our graduating students receiving their hard earned scrolls during the 12th Graduation ceremony multifarious success in your endeavors.
And do not be complacent in your immediate achievements but to stay on course although at times it could just be a pittance of success and most importantly, find ways to improve rather than be a mumpsimus. Never rest on your laurels and aim for the pinnacle, withal the thought-provoking ideas that will mesmerize the very essence maelstrom of intellectual.
